Fear Cannot Be Hidden
August 24, 2009
So, this experience actually occurred in the spring, but we’ve been pretty busy, and have not had the chance to write about it until now. I (James) am writing this experience because typically these stories come from the parents, but I think it is interesting to have someone else’s experience (in this case, as the coworker/uncle). So here it is… from my perspective…
It started out when Kyle and I had the task of running the office for a week while Josh was off playing the “my wife is having a baby at any moment” card. Despite our scattered selves, we did a good job, and kept everything afloat. Then we got the call saying “it’s happening tonight!”, but the question was….when? I arrived at the hospital later that evening with my mother-in-law (Liz and my wife were already there) and set up camp in the waiting room. A few hours went by of playing the waiting game. Kyle showed up a little while later, and after playing iPhone games to pass the time, Josh finally walked out of the delivery area looking all composed and proud as a new dad (when really he was scared out of his mind… check out his face in the image below!)
So after hours upon hours upon hours of waiting (Ok, it wasn’t as bad as I’m making it sound) we finally got to see this new little addition to the Baker (and humid) family. His name is Elliott Kristoff Baker and after just five and half short months, we already have him programming in wordpress and making films about dinosaurs!
This experience was definitely one for the books, as most births in the family are. Josh probably had the best experience out of this one, but we were right there to enjoy it with him (waiting…playing games….eating donuts….it was rough) Come on! Like Josh had a hard time! Amy is the one who did most of the work. Congratulations again to Amy and Josh for providing such a great piece of entertainment, and our new studio mascot.
Rhodes Capital Identity Package
August 19, 2009
Rhodes Capital Management is an investment management firm who specializes in ‘alternative investment strategies and newsletters for individual and institutional investors’. They contacted us about refreshing their look, starting with their logo. When updating a logo it is always important to keep consistent elements from the old logo. In this instance, this was the lighthouse. We are also in the process of working with them to re-design the look of their website.

PMBA Logo Design
August 19, 2009
Several of our team members are avid mountain bikers. Through our participation with the Philadelphia Mountain Biking Association (PMBA) the opportunity to re-design their logo was presented to us.
Keeping some elements of the old logo, our goal was to make the logo recognizable as the PMBA logo and yet updating the design for their current brand. We kept the Liberty Bell and the reference to a chain ring – both were simplified to keep the logo clean. The crack in the Liberty Bell creates a mountain trail because after all, it is a mountain biking logo.

SRDC Bike Rack
August 7, 2009
When the Schuylkill River Development Corporation (SRDC) came to us and asked us to develop a bike rack for the up-coming skate park to be placed in Philadelphia, we were excited to donate our time to the endeavor. We took this challenge and ran with it, not only developing a bike rack, but a bike rack that serves as a bench for seating. We enjoyed combining our design skills with our biking interests and being able to give to the community. They should be placed in the park shortly!
