Sharing the Sky
November 3, 2009
Hello all. This is Amy – the newest ‘member’ of humid – writing to you today with another experience. In trying to think of something thrilling to add to the mix of mountain biking, kayaking, and having babies, I remembered what I did this summer! I went parasailing for the first time. Now, I have usually classified parasailing in the ‘extreme activities’ category up there with sky diving and bridge jumping. I have never really felt the need to pursue such activities, though maybe if presented with the opportunity, I wouldn’t turn it down. So when this summer, my Uncle decided to take his family parasailing during our family vacation to Ocean City, MD, the rest of us were faced with the decision to join in the fun. My sister and I decided we were up to some fun and new adventures, so we went along for the experience.
Let me tell you – it was not anything like I imagined it! I am not a huge fan of roller coasters and ‘loosing your stomach’ and this is what I was imagining most of this sailing experience would do to me – not at all! We took off right from the back of the boat (which worked out way better than starting on land and face planting into the water like everyone on America’s Funniest Home Videos does!) and just lazily floated up above the water. I think we were on a 900′ rope or so and were up in the air for about 10 minutes or so. At the end, they bring you down (the part I thought was going to feel like falling out of the sky) and dip your feet in the water, and then pull you into the boat. It was definitely a lot of fun, so relaxing to be floating up in the sky, and it’s a great view. I recommend the experience, especially riding with someone else – it’s always fun to share experiences!
