Kayak Tour OBX
July 13, 2009
On a recent trip to the Outer Banks, NC (OBX) I had the opportunity to take my (Josh) family kayaking – some of them for the first time – at the Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary.
The weather was perfect, 84 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. After a quick lesson on paddling, we set out to the launch site with Jackson (pictured), our guide for this voyage. Let me pause here to acknowledge that Jackson was an amazing guide and provided some great insight into some of the local wildlife, history, and folk lure of the OBX. He also does a pretty sick Black Beard impersonation. We were on the water for about 3 hours and to my surprise no one ended up in the water – although there were several attempts to change that from a few people whose names I will not mention). This is a great way to get a little closer to some of the local wildlife and spend some time getting a little exercise while doing so.
We booked our kayaking through the North Beach Outfitters located in Duck. They offer a variety of eco-tours that explore several different areas on the OBX ranging from salt water marshes to fresh water rivers. For more information on tours and pricing, check out their website – www.coastalkayak.org – or contact the store at 252-261-6262 or 252- 441-3393 if you want to talk to someone in person.
Tough Love
July 9, 2009
“Tough Love”, by Chad
You ever rest on your laurels and think “it will never happen to me”? You just cruise through life thinking and believing you are invincible, you know that feeling? It is the feeling you get when you land that first 360 snowboarding, or you drop that rock drop mountain biking – you know the feeling I am talking about – then you start pushing your limits and landing bigger tricks and dropping bigger drops, all the while remaining invincible.
THEN, a nemesis sticks you in the back to claim your spot…..well on 10/26/08, my nemesis, a root named Charlie on a trail called Cedar Dust on Galbraith Mountain in Bellingham, WA – claimed my spot. Charlie stole my ego and shut me down, after allowing my wheels of ego to roll over him countless times over a 12 year span of time. Charlie buttered himself up extra slick for my rear wheel to slip just enough to kick my left foot out in front of my pedal and connect on another rock and…well the pics tell the rest of the story
Be a Rhino
July 6, 2009
A surprising night unfolded at Kildare’s Pub in King of Prussia Tuesday night for the humid crew.
We were invited to the Ultimate Networking Event put on by our friend Tom Camarda of Ultimate Networking Solutions. To be honest, we were expecting it to be a low key event, considering it was a school night and everything, but we quickly learned that this was not the case. Tom had reserved the entire top floor of the pub and the room was buzzing with excitement, energy, and free pints. This was our kind of scene! There was an amazing spread of food including some of the best hot wings that we have ever tried. Something to note though, hot wings and handshakes don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand (no pun intended). Tom opened the night and quickly introduced David Dickson from the SBA (Small Business Administration) -www.sba.gov/pa/phil/ – to talk about opportunities to work with the government (something humid is already doing). The evening finished with an energy packed speech from Dave Magrogan, the CEO and founder of Kildare’s – www.kildarespub.com – and Rhino Living – www.rhinoliving.com – who’s infectious and inspirational mantra…Be A Rhino, brought excitement to the entrepreneurial crowd.
The night was a huge success and Kyle was actually one of the door prize winners. We met financial planners, real estate investors, motivational speakers, and designers. I’m kidding, we were the only designers there and pretty proud of it. We would certainly encourage everyone to get out and attend events like this as often as possible because they attract a diverse and energetic crowd. As they say, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.”

Bad Day at the Bowl
June 1, 2009
So we decided to do some jumping at the bowl in Wissahickon this weekend, it started off great but maybe we stayed too long.
We were jumping and feeling good for the first hour or two then we decided to hit the doubles we finally conquered a month ago. To make a short story even shorter Josh walked away with some cuts and a sore shoulder and I (James Cory) walked away with a screwed up ankle and embarrassment.
We’ll be back though, hopefully with more luck!

Dual Sport Riding
May 20, 2009
It turns out riding a dual sport motorcycle is nothing like riding a bicycle and contrary to what you might think it’s actually the opposite side of easy. Yes, having an engine makes going uphill a bit easier but having a gas pedal actually gets you into trouble more than it gets you out of trouble. Riding through sand felt like trying to ride a 400lb moving pogo stick across a sea of marbles. The only thing harder than the actual riding was having to pick up the massive machine off the ground when I fell over, twice.
It was an unbelievably challenging and rewarding experience and I have a new found respect for the guys who race across anything on a dirt bike. I think for the time being I’ll stick to racing my mountain bike.
